Then again, all these guys are doing better than their compatriots in Egypt, who are twiddling their thumbs awaiting for the start of any organized play. And in the meanwhile, the national team goes from one canceled friendly to the next, watching time slowly tick away as the squad gears up for the World Cup qualifiers.

It is all a depressing sign of the times.

Egyptian Legend, Ahmed Hassan dreams of making a return to Belgian football.

Ahmed Hassan and Lierse S.K have both confirmed intent to see a deal through. Lierse chairman Maged Samy has revealed that the speculated deal would see the former Anderlecht man in Lierse for a year. However, Hassan remains locked into a contract with Cairo giants Zamalek.

The former Anderlecht player, 37 year, has vocalized his desire to make a move.

Hassan would like a move to Lierse himself, but he is under contract for another year and must receive approval from Zamalek. “The point is: I am not that much of an important player for Zamalek” said Hassan.

“Maged Samy is a very good friend of mine. I would love to help him,” said Hassan in the Gazet van Antwerpen. “I come not for the money, but for Samy. I also would love to see my fellow compatriots at Lierse”

“Hassan is a personal friend of the President. In Zamalek, Hassan was not paid for a while. Moreover, it is far from clear if the Egyptian league will be resumed, “explained the Lierse CEO, Jesse De Preter.

The Egyptian Lierse chairman Maged Samy has been trying his best for several weeks to loosen Hassan from Zamalek. Zamalek has seen not seen months of leauge action, ever since the domestic league was shut down after the unfortunate events of Port Said.

“I just want be back on the field every week,” said Ahmed Hassan “Being at Lierse will allow me to be happy.”

“So I want to come, but my contract with Zamalek is still ongoing. I’ll be urging my club to get me released. This week I talk again with the board.”

Following up from our previous post, Amr Zaki has finalized a deal with Elizagspor.

Earlier today, The Egyptian striker signed onto a 2 year deal with Turkish side Elizagspor. The signing of the contract (initially a 3 year deal deal) was delayed as Zaki preferred a shorter deal (1 year). The striker also campaigned for stipulations that would allow him to terminate the contract in the case that Elizagspor are unable to maintain their spot in the first division of Turkish football. In compromise, a 2 year deal was agreed to.

Zaki will head to turkey tomorrow for a physical, before taking part in the club’s official press conference on Saturday.
